Clarksburg Gateway Sector Plan is on a Fast Track

On July 26, 2023, Montgomery Planning staff held a Community Kick-Off meeting and open house in Clarksburg to discuss the Clarksburg Gateway Sector Plan. The Friends of Ten Mile Creek and Little Seneca Reservoir attended this meeting to express their concerns for the protection of tributaries flowing to our region’s back-up water supply, Little Seneca Reservoir.

We are very concerned about the extent of the development of the 200-acre historic COMSAT property, as well as proposals to build new roads, including the Clarksburg By-pass, the extension of Observation Drive, the extension of Little Seneca Parkway, and plans to construct a new I-270 interchange. All these development plans would entail extensive additions of impervious surfaces and harmful sediment to the Little Seneca Watershed and would severely degrade the water quality of Little Seneca Reservoir.

The Clarksburg Sector plan is on a fast track. Planning Board public hearings are scheduled for July 2024. It’s important for people who care about the environment and clean drinking water to weigh in at every step of the process. There are 4 listening sessions scheduled in October. You can find out more about the plan and the process in the link below.
